Teppanyaki With Yasai-Ya..

Delectable Selection With The Maestro Showing His Panache

The mere mention of Teppanyaki in Japan will bring to mind so-so food at exorbitant prices. But Yasai-Ya situated right in the heart of sleazy Roppongi will change your mind. The staff are ultra-friendly and always eager to please. Our fave is the chef (as shown in the picture) from Kyushu. He is ever so affable that you can't help but like him:)

Yasai-Ya's menu consists of a good mix of meats, seafood, etc...Our amuse-bouche of potato croquette with a light tomato puree sauce was sinfully delicious! Next came our order of Caesar Salad with a generous sprinkle of parmesan and crispy bacon bits...yummy with all the extra dressing on the side;)

To kick-start our Teppanyaki proper was a mix of five assorted vegetables. They were so good that I thought being a bunny would not a bad idea if you are allowed to just gnaw on these the whole day...*dreamy sigh* Next up were the divine Giant Scallops. These are sold by per piece and are real crowd pleasers. Be there early as they are usually sold out if you come a tad too late. The scallop was served on the shell with an aesthetic feel upon a bed of nori and drizzled with seasoned butter sauce...Ahhh, the mere thought of it is enough to make me salivate;) Equally delicious was our next choice of sauteed foie gras. This sits slightly heavy on the palate as it was served with a thick sauce but nevertheless it's a thumbs up! And no visit is complete without a juicy, succulent beef steak. There is a choice of either Australian or Wagyu beef, though the price is very reasonable for Wagyu. The steak is done to your liking and accompanied with a healthy dose of greens. To round up the meal nicely, one must not forget the carbohydrates laden fried rice. We had both the garlic and the mixed vegetable ones and this staple comes with a nice whiff of wok tossed flavour.

Unlike most Teppanyaki restaurants where the food is usually just seasoned with salt (or maybe MSG???), Yasai-Ya will bowl you over with its creative use of sauces and garnishing. Enough to keep you coming back for more...
