Given the slew of drinking establishments here, the Japanese are certainly in no hurry to head home after a long day at work. A typical work day for most often end with a
nomihodai session at an
izakaya, literally finishing the day on a "high note";) Moi too, love soaking up this aspect of the Japanese culture. Even if you are like me, inept at the Japanese language, proficient sentences will soon be rolling off your tongue as you down that beer #10...
Kampai...
Watami 和民
According to a report, this
Izakaya empire has about half a dozen branches in
Shibuya alone. Watami thrives on being super cheap, super smoky and offering super trashy food. As most of the
Izakaya-going crowd are also nicotine addicts, non-smokers are in for a trying time here with all the swirling second hand smoke:(

With a limited seating capacity, the
Omotesando branch of
Aburiya Fudo even features linen-dressed bar stools. Grilling of premium seafood and meat is its stronghold and Aburiya Fudo is definitely more for the well-heeled.

In a back alley off
Roppongi-
dori, this two-storey shop house is
amost incognito amongst the many low-rise Japanese homes. Serves typical fare consisting of
Yakitori 焼き鳥 and quite some varieties of
agemono 揚げ物. The fried bread with ice cream パンあいす at Teyandei is the ultimate dish to call it a night.

Tofuro is yet another popular
Izakaya chain. It is however (at least not the branch in
Ginza) not your typical raucous
salaryman joint. Segmented tatami rooms are the preferred choice of seating here and the quality of its food, from
sashimi to tempura is the main draw for us.

Non-pork eaters are well-taken care of at
Yoshida for they offer delicious chicken filled
gyozas that are as original as they can possibly get. As you folks know, I have a real hankering for
gyozas and I can at long last pig out to my heart's content...
Yay!
