My Winter Wonderland...

Isn't the view breathtaking...

My dear other half generously booked us a trip to a ryokan in Hakone over the long V Day weekend. And I honestly can't think of a better way than a soak in an onsen to get some respite from the unusually cold winter here.

Hakone Ginyu is indeed top notch and managed to erase our not-so-pleasant ryokan experience in Nikko a couple of years back. Not only were the views spectacular, Lady Luck was shining upon us as we woke up to snow the next morning. To watch the snowflakes drifting gently from the pale grey sky while soaking in our outdoor hot tub was therapeutic enough to put any shrink out of business.

As for meals, the included Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were served in the comforts of our room and if you, like us, are squeamish about having a whole grilled fish with bones and head for breakfast, Ginyu will graciously offer you a scrumptious Western morning spread.

Tipping
It's customary to tip around JPY 3,000-10,000 upon arrival or departure depends on your satisfaction with your room attendant who acts as your butler during your stay:

I didn't know it was customary to tip at all at an onsen. Who told you that?
