Often a lengthy affair with some rather "curious" in-between courses, Kaiseki is something that I try to avoid most times. But overnighting in a ryokan leaves one with no other alternatives since a Kaiseki dinner is mandatory to the overall cultural experience.

I must add though, that the Kaiseki dinner at Ginyu, served in the comfort of our room, turned out to be quite a satisfying experience. Thanks in part to the bubbly and my "smuggled-in" chilli padi which I proceeded to eat with everything^^ It went exceptionally well with the hot pot though I am sure our matronly server would get a fit if she had caught me at it:)

Presentation and attention to details was as usual, impeccable. As February is the month of the Setsubun 節分, the zensai 前菜 even featured an oni 鬼 and a yōsei 妖精!

The bluefin tuna sashimi was given a good dose of rock salt. And when the menu said rock salt, it really meant business. Just check out the seriously kick-ass pink rock!!!

The tomato was filled with some slimy dregs which was not particularly enjoyable. The nabe 鍋 was just the exact opposite, thanks to the chilli padi, it was all spicy and hot, hot, hot!!!

Dessert comprised of a chocolate cake, strawberries and a green tea flavoured shake. Glazed with the subtle sweetness of maple syrup, it reminded me vaguely of the avocado shake served at Sanur in Singapore. What sweet endings...
