Opened for business since last fall,
Chez Tomo Ginza serves
contemporary French cuisine not unlike its sister restaurant in
Shirokane. With its high ceilings and massive glass windows, it conveys the atmosphere of a reconverted loft apartment.
Keeping its six-course dinner menu priced at a modest 5,780
JPY (S$88),
Chez Tomo offers one of the best value for French food about town with the first
hors d'oeuvre, main and dessert courses available for pick from a mouth watering menu selection.

For
hors d'oeuvre number 1, I opted for the pate with a tangy beetroot emulsion. The zesty beetroot merged perfectly with the creaminess of the pate, leaving behind a refreshing twangy aftertaste. Definitely my favourite for the evening. A familiar myriad of colours presented in the form of 30 different varieties of organic vegetables and a creamy uni soup served in its original spiny shell made their entries as
hors d'oeuvre number 2 and
potage de la
saison respectively,
ala Chez Tomo Shirokane. The vegetable morsels were still as healthily bland as ever with the soup still the same wonderfully rich sunny orange colour.

Tempted by the veal
cocotte main dish in the menu, I decided to give it a go. It was like a giant Vol-
au-vent with the meaty stew contained underneath the layer of flaky puff pastry. Though not great, it was passable. The other main which I would have opted for was the seafood
quenelle Paul
Bocuse style. It seemed like a smarter choice since it came recommended by the house and one of my dinner companions was digging in with gusto.
Not wanting to make the same mistake twice, I decided to go with the recommendation of bread pudding with ice cream for dessert. Sigh...it seemed I can never get it right as once again mine was just passable whereas the other two at the table seemed to lap theirs up. My only explanation, tonight is just not my night.
