The Monnalisa Of Japan...
This restaurant located on the 36th floor of the Marunochi Building serves up French food with a flourish. The interior of Monnalisa is of a modern minimalist design with huge bay windows adorning one side of the restaurant, offering sweeping views of the Tokyo skyline and one of the Hanami hotspot, the Imperial Palace.
We were at Monnalisa on a Saturday for lunch and the set menu was a bargain at 6,000 JPY. First up was a foamy concoction of seafood which sat extremely light on the palate. Next on the list was a cold potage which was so smooth that it felt divine going down the throat. This was followed by fresh scallops on a bed of risotto. The scallops were lightly grilled and seasoned and the dish was delectably yummy. For the meat course, we had the veal served with a curried vol-au-vent just like your "curry-pok" with a French twist;)
To round up our meal, we were served two sweets. Afterall, this is European cuisine and they do take immense pride in their sweets. The first was an assortment of cakes and the second was a scoop each of ice-cream and sorbet.
Overall, it was a thumbs up though not particularly memorable given the exhilarating number of top notch French eateries here.
