The full works at Rico's Kitchen
This was one of the first few restaurants which my other half brought me to when we first moved to Tokyo and till now, we have remained faithful patrons of Rico's Kitchen in Ebisu. The Chef's dexterous use of seasonal ingredients for the degustation menu bowl us over time and time again. His splendid east-meet-west creations are nothing short of gratifying.
On one of our gourmet evenings there, we started off with a clam soup. The freshness of the bottleneck clams instinctively reminded you of the ocean. Pan fried scallops on a bed of salad was next. The salad was lightly drizzled with a dressing that just accentuated the sweetness of the scallops.
Ta-da! Here comes my fave, garlic bread! I do have really simple tastes, folks;) I have to declare this is the BEST garlic bread EVER. The thick chunk of toast was served piping hot and fragrant with the fresh garlic that had been toasted in the oven for that crunchy, crusty bite. Simple but yet an indulgence to the senses...*contented sigh* Ok, Ok, our epicurean journey continues. Sardine tempura in light batter was next, followed by poached fish in a rich, flavourful broth. Two meat dishes followed in succession; a lamb lasagna and duck on a bed of risotto with pan-seared Foie Gras. I am no fan of lamb except for lamb chops but the lasagna had me eating out of the Chef's hand and don't even start me on the Foie Gras! Two thumbs up!
Before the dessert, we were served kiwi sorbet to cleanse our palate and the piquant kiwi just whetted my appetite for more. I know, I can be a glut sometimes;) Worthy of mention here is the service staff at Rico's Kitchen. Though they speak in halting English, the earnest staff still takes great pains to introduce every course and remember our likes and dislikes right down to the last detail! And without fail, our fave dessert of warm almond and apple cake served with a dollop of ice cream and caramelised walnuts will always bring smiles to our faces for that perfect finale.
