Incredible India...
After witnessing hordes of Indian natives flocking to Nirvanam, my other half managed to persuade me to give it a shot too. Besides the humble Roti Prata and the occasional Indian Rojak, you will never catch me in an Indian restaurant. Even when I was in India, if at all I ate Indian food, it was always only Naan, Roomali or Tandoori. Therefore, it was with much trepidation that I set foot into Nirvanam which was just round the corner from where we live.
With its minimalist decor, Nirvanam allows you to focus on its food instead. After some deliberation, we decided on plain Dosa, some Naans and Poori, a vegetarian curry and butter chicken. So far, so good...relatively safe choices.
The Dosa arrived after a long wait of 20 minutes, with the waiter apologising profusely. By then, we were so famished that the Dosa was devoured in mere seconds. The plain dosa suited my taste buds as I could dip morsels of them gingerly into the sauces. Ditto for the Naan and Poori. Generally, food which are drenched in sauces made from onions and a million unknown spices repulsed me:( Don't get me wrong. I do like sauces, just not in drowning quantities and Indian food is great too, just not on a regular basis please...Not to be prejudiced though, the curry and butter chicken at Nirvanam were actually quite good with a spicy piquant aftertaste.
Overall, I did enjoy the meal even though in contrast to my usual voracious appetite, I could only managed a third of this meal. But my other half was one happy dude as he gleefully tucked in into two-thirds of the meal.
