Samba With Sergio Mendes...
In a week long stint at the Blue Note Tokyo, Sergio Mendes, who is nearing his seventies, is a bundle of energy that will put most of us to shame. Performing well-received Bossa Nova classics like Samba, The Fool On The Hill, Look Around, The Look of Love, Wave, etc, we were swept away by the dynamic performance of the Grammy award-winning musician at the piano, accompanied by his band and three female vocalists, including his wife. To draw in a younger audience, Mr Mendes cleverly gave a fresh breath of air to some of the classics by collaborating with San Francisco rapper, H2O.
The concert reached its crescendo with the massive hit, Mas Que Nada, when a full house got up on their feet and started jiving to the beat. A rousing finale from the undisputed master of Brazilian jazz...
