With a large expat community in Hiroo, the area is brimming with loads of cafes, eateries and quirky stores. You might scoffed at restaurants which rely on a predominantly expat clientele but my advice is to reserve the comments till you had a taste of Cicada.
With an upbeat and contemporary theme, Ciciada is a Mediterranean style restaurant with individual and two large communal tables which can take up to 20 paxs per table. So, if you are in the mood for some serious socialising, throw caution to the wind and head on down to the communal tables.
The appetisers at Cicada are all outstanding, putting me in a dilemma each time I am there. The chickpea hummus is a smooth and creamy concoction that makes for a perfect twosome with the grilled flat pita bread. The spicy Moroccan crab cakes also rank high on my must-have list at Cicada. The piquant sauce coupled with a citrusy squeeze of a lemon wedge gives this dish an extra oomph. With the mains not particularly memorable, save your daily calorie intake for more of these appetite-whetting precursors instead.
A promising beginning must come with a fulfilling ending. The desserts here are worth incurring the wrath of your waistline. The Affogato with its underlying bitter notes of double espresso induces a bittersweet experience whilst the super rich warm chocolate cake with its molten Valrhona oozes forth for that rhapsodic explosive finale.
