Hmmm...a very strange situation. As far as it goes, the one and only Sweet Dynasty in Hong Kong is in Tsim Sha Tsui whereas there is a handful of them here in Tokyo. In case you are wondering why this is strange, I can tell you that Sweet Dynasty hails from Hong Kong, so back to my pondering...
The most conspicuous feature in its decor at the Aoyama branch is the see-through glass walkway although I was pretty paranoid and kept looking down and thinking I was going to miss my footing somewhere, somehow.
The cutthroat prices, even by Tokyo's standard is the biggest drawback at Sweet Dynasty though. A bowl of wanton noodles will set you back by 1,200JPY or S$20 and it is barely sufficient for one (at least in my case)! On the other hand, I have to concede though that the food here is of undeniable freshness and quality. The wantons are filled to a juicy plumpness and only with fresh shrimps that are just oozing sweetness with every bite. Besides noodles, fundamentals like congee and Dim Sum also form part of Sweet Dynasty's offerings.
Hong Kong style desserts are noted for their diversified yet light and subtly sweet taste and here is where Sweet Dynasty shines with its offerings of mango pudding, black sesame filled glutinous rice balls in ginger syrup and bean curd in sweet syrup. The creamy, silky bean curd even comes freshly made in a wooden bucket, that is if you feel well enough to down 8 bowls of it. Alternatively, individual order served in a not-so spectacular mode can also be had.
Now if only they can revise their prices southwards...
