To me, Oyakodon 親子丼 is street food with its relatively easy style of preparation and straightforward taste. Regarded as one of Japan's beloved dish, the name of this rice bowl literally translates to mean parent and child, a sentimental constellation of the relationship between a parent and a child as evident in the use of both chicken and egg in the dish.
Miyaki Jidori Sumibiyaki, a down to earth joint located in the basement of Tokia building whips up delicious version of this popular dish. Instead of simmered chicken, succulent chunks are grilled over an open flame giving an extra oomph to the dish. The cooked chicken is then combined with beaten egg and set atop a mound of steaming rice.
The miso-glazed chicken with eggplant is also a hot dish here. The mirin in the dish gives it an uplifting sweetness that will have you hooked in an instant. Economical yet gratifying, this to me is street food at its best!
