When the clock strikes 12, the magical hour begins. From snooty Michelin starred restaurants to unassuming family run joints, you can really stretch your yen with the set lunches on offer here in Tokyo.
Even a Korean Yakiniku lunch with locally produced beef will not burn a hole in your pocket. Just a stone throw from my office, this is my fave haunt to curb that carnivorous instinct when it comes a-calling. The 980JPY or S$15 bento featured here consists of a soup, rice, pickled beansprouts, slices of marbled wagyu dripping enticingly with sweet marinate and the quintessential Kimchi.
Alternatively, go for a Japanese experience with the classic rice and sashimi combo. With the Sakura season looming, eateries too are formulating their own gay expressions of Hanami through some tempting polychromatic creations. This bowl of lunch-time Sashimi Donburi with ume or plum was enjoyed under boughs of Sakura blooms at a mere 1,500JPY or S$23!
With moderate prices and no compromise on quality, lunchtime in Tokyo is certainly a joyous time!
