Hafa Adai...Means Hello!

Just 3 hours of flying time and we were transported to this sunny island in the Western Pacific Ocean. Like its more popular cousin, Hawaii, Guam is another Little Japan in the making.

Japanese restaurants, massage parlours , designer brand stores are all out in full force to court the yen rich Japanese tourists. You can find the next Tiffany, Bottega or Chanel store just 500 metres from the last one. Needless to say, moi had to do as the Romans do and indulge in some perk-me-ups as Guam is a tax-free state in the US^^

We put up at the Westin Tumon and its excellant beach with crystal clear waters, though not quite Hawaii, was pleasing enough as most hotels here do not have a beachfront. Another point in its favour is you do not have to rub shoulders with the next sunbather which is the norm on Waikiki beach.

Chamorro BBQ with red rice

Chow time here proves to be a little more challenging since we most definitely did not want anything nippon. We settled on Roy's as we were frequent patrons there while in Hawaii. Food was ok but portions were like "supersize me"...well, welcome to the US. As for some local Chamorro BBQ, Proa is great. The well marinated chicken thigh and the accompanying red rice, a staple of Chamorro cuisine sat well with us.

Sitting here blogging and listening to the howling wind in Tokyo, I wish someone could minisize me and pack me in if they are heading to this sunny island set in the sea...
