Room For 2...

Two Rooms is the brainchild of some of the old hands who used to run New York Grill at Park Hyatt and Oak Door at Grand Hyatt. Opening to rave reviews, we decided to head over for dinner one summer evening...(I know I am sooo yesterday with my blog posts. As the saying goes, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak:)

Stepping into the restaurant, you know instinctively that this place is gonna be a cash cow for its owners for it possesses all the hallmarks of what expatriates and rich Japanese like. Swathed in dark wood and beige, it is the perfect analogy of polished minimalism with a 1800-bottle cellar doubling up as an entrance to the private dining room. The outdoor bar area is the perfect backdrop for lounging with its uber cool Dedon furniture, generous in size and low enough to lie back luxuriously. The water terraced feature adds to the overall eye appeal as you look towards the skyline of Shinjuku.

The marvelous Insalata Caprese & Beef Steak

Opting for the ala carte menu, we went for the Insalata Caprese, beef main for my other half and rack of lamb for me. While caprese is a simple affair to prepare, make no bones about it, freshness of ingredients is paramount. And I can vouch that the Caprese here is one of the best we have ever tasted, thanks in part to the locally sourced plum succulent tomatoes.

As for my main of rack of lamb, it came ensconced in 1-inch thick fats, leaving a horrible greasy film in my mouth that lasted the whole evening. My other half's steak fared much better, but then as with any top tier eatery, whipping up a good piece of meat should be business as usual for them.

I might not be back for dinner after this episode but the bar has certainly not seen the last of me.
