With three of its restaurants, namely Sense, Signature and the Tapas Molecular Bar, awarded the coveted Michelin stars, Mandarin Hotel is like the anointed hotel of the exalted guide. To celebrate my other half's birthday, Signature was the venue which the dear boy had handpicked himself.
We had bypassed Signature on the few occasions when we had patronised Sense and I have to say ruefully that it has never left much of an impression on me. Its fixtures, ambience and even the high rise panoramic view are almost mandatory, like any found in a top tier hotel restaurant.
From top left: Savoury mousse, Foie Gras, Creamy soup with smoked salmon, Fish course, Braised deer (which I could not eat and gave all to my other half), Sorbet, Dessert & Petits Fours
Serving classic french fare with a seasonal touch, Signature's menu is again nice and safe, nothing too outstanding. To surmise, it is like a glass of ice water, nice but bland.
Not to appear too fastidious though on the birthday boy's evening, I was all praise for their presentation of the birthday cake. It was as I had dictated over the phone, spelled out neatly in Deutsch on the accompanying marzipan. Watching the birthday boy beaming, I think I deserve a pat on the shoulder^^
