I have heard that the Royal Copenhagen Tea Lounge in Singapore caters mainly to the ladies of leisure and here in Tokyo it is not too much of a dissimilarity. Afterall, who can afford to while away a weekday afternoon sipping beverages from dainty hand painted porcelain? To clear the air, moi ain't got the luck to be a tai-tai; rather I was with one on one of my days off and hence decided to head to the Isetan branch of the Royal Copenhagen Tea Lounge for some late lunch.
The interior was surprisingly subdued for a European tea house with really just basics. I decided against tea time delights and instead dived straight into the curry lunch specials. Though pared down for Japanese palates, the curry was nonetheless delicious, without the usual candy coated sweetness attached to Japanese curries. Credit must be given to Royal Copenhagen's team of artisans. Afterall, eating and drinking from delicate hand painted china does make all the difference in the world of dining, don't you just agree?
