The venue for this fashion extravaganza was specially built to mirror that of a circus big top and we were all seated at tables placed strategically around a runway that opened up into a large arena. Just a stone throw away, we spotted Miss Universe 2007, Ms Riyo Mori and Miss Japan 2006, Ms Kurara Chibana seated at an adjacent table.
The fare served consisted of an assortment of Italian breads and finger food with pasta and a meat dish as well. Free flow of Prosecco and wine pairings were served with the meal and the service staff were all appropriately decked out in Etro. The signature paisley print of Etro was also evident in the cushions and napkins provided for the guests.
Just as the dessert of panna cotta was being served, the lights began to dim and the show commenced. Whoo-whee...what a dazzling array of talents! Resplendent in luxurious Etro velvet jackets, dresses and skirts with sequins, spangles and all things shiny, the fine line between models and performers blurred as the mind-boggling performances continued. There was even a stilt walker in a custom made lengthy skirt! With the riots of colours and convivial atmosphere onstage, this was one show that I am sure even the models were crestfallen to see it end.
I would have loved to capture it all in film, but alas, the fashion industry is fiercely protective of their shows and the no filming, no photos rule apply. Nonetheless, I had a groovy time and I might just go and grab my very first Etro scarf;)
