So Sinful, Yet Sooo Good...

Crowned with the dubious honour of being one of the most unhealthy methods of cooking, deep fried foods are however, arguably one of the most palatable and tastiest as well.

The four dips: soya sauce, a ponzu infused one, a thick sweetish sauce and salt

With legions of fans, there are countless eateries in Tokyo specialising in Kushiage, deep fried skewers that has its roots in Osaka where street food reigns supreme. The most straightforward way to enjoy a meal of kushiage is to opt for the chef's selection or omakase. Seafood, beef, asparagus, mushrooms, quail eggs, ginko nuts, lotus roots...the meal is an endless procession of skewers. After having your fill, simply gesture for the chef to stop and you will be charged accordingly.

I lurve the prawn and asparagus, finger licking & lip smacking oishii!!!

Raw cabbage, carrot and cucumber sticks are typical accompaniments, perfect to gnaw on while waiting. The chef will meticulously thread each piece of meat or vegetables through thin wooden skewers, coat them in batter, sprinkle on breadcrumbs, and finally drop them into the hot oil. Never oily, the resultant crunchy breaded skewers are then placed onto a small dish with four partitions, indicating which of the four dips is best with each skewer. Dunk each piece into the suggested dip, take your first bite and and you will be floating on cloud nine in no time;-)
