Our Easter Sunday this year was quite an eventful one. It marked the first time I attended mass in Japan at a Japanese language only church. Though I could barely follow the service at St Mary's Cathedral, just by attendance makes me feel spiritually whole again:)
After mass and with the Sakura trees out in full bloom, we naturally followed up with an idyllic luncheon at the formal Il Teatro in the scenic Four Seasons Hotel Chinzan-so just a stone throw away from St Mary's. To digress, St Mary's was designed by Kenzo Tange who was also responsible for the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, thus making it an architecturally important monument in Japan.
Ok, back to one of my imbecilic pleasures of life, pigging out! Il Teatro, furnished with lavish European style fixtures (a good example being the Venetian glass chandeliers) specialises in traditional Milanese cuisine which suited me just fine:) Our table was right by the large windows which afford a spectacular view of the Chinzan-so gardens overflowing with cherry trees creaking under the weight of their well endowed boughs. Come to think of it, it was almost like a Hanami experience, unconventional but more comfy since we were shielded from the gusty winds outside.
Things started off well with our appetisers of Vitello Tonnato and homemade ravioli. Regrettably, 2,000JPY (S$30) was only good for three forkfuls.
Our mains of wagyu steak with foie gras and cheesy vegeterian tart with truffles were just as good although portions were again as if we were in the midst of a famine. If it were not for my other half's connections which resulted in some complimentary chef's specials, we would have walked away disgruntled for a hungry man makes an angry man!
