Time-Out For Thai...

Thai food is possibly one of the most popular cuisine worldwide and it is not difficult to comprehend the reason behind its success. With its vast variety, one can really revel in the quality of taste sensations on offer. From a snooty restaurant to a humble joint, here I endeavour to bring you the best of Tokyo's Thai highlights. Itadakimasu!

Mango Tree Tokyo

The poshest amongst the lot, Mango Tree Tokyo though is in serious need of polishing when it comes to customer service. While they have no qualms about allowing infants or children into their restaurant, they do not provide high-chairs and mothers are expected to carry their babies throughout the meal. In addition, their food is unspectacular and definitely does not warrant the outrageous prices which they are charging. For dinner, we are singing to the tune of 4,000JPY or S$65 for a main of chicken curry! Don't they know that we are in recession???

Erawan

A charming interior of wood and bamboo stilts coupled with a generous sprinkling of potted plants completes the look for Erawan. The food here is generally quite good and the soft lighting helps create a sentimental vibe to its fiery offerings.

Other Location: Shinjuku

Bangkok Kitchen

This ultra-modern restaurant with its stark white interior is as Thai as my name goes. The food here is more of a hit and miss though its Yen Ta Fo soup noodles have filled our stomachs on many a frosty wintry evening. Boosted by its super friendly prices and the availability of chilli padi, Bangkok Kitchen is still definitely gonna be on my speed dial.

Jim Thompson's Table

The newest entrant, Jim Thompson's Table does not offer anything particularly special that has not already been offered by the others. However, with mid-range prices and a prime address to boot, it looks like Jim Thompson's Table is here to stay.

Keawjai

Depending on the branch location, Keawjai can swing from being a down to earth joint in Shinjuku to a more elegant setting in Meguro complete with vegetable and fruit carvings. The Shinjuku branch looks like a no-frills canteen with the prices to match. Overall, food and service is decent here, just not with a date.

Keawjai
Address: 1-1-5 Nishi-Shinjuku, B2 Lumine Shinjuku, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan

Other Loactions: Meguaro, Kotobashi, Toyocho, Narita

Last but not least, let's not forget the existence of Kaffir Lime. Mentioned in an earlier post, it is still my top pick for Thai cuisine in Tokyo.
