All Fired-Up At Si Chuan Dou Hua...

I don't know why I have yet to step foot into the Si Chuan Dou Hua restaurant in Singapore, but the one here in Tokyo certainly has me swooning with delight:-)

The goodness of the 8-Treasure tea includes rock sugar, wolf berries, dates, walnuts, Chrysanthemum, longans, etc...

The restaurant made up for its unspectacular interior by engaging the services of several skilled Chinese tea masters who specialise in serving the house specialty, the Eight Treasure Tea. Equipped with ultra-long kettle sprouts, it is great fun watching them integrating Chinese martial arts into their tea pouring rituals. With their agility and quick reflexes, nary a drop spilled even when they are brandishing the kettles from different angles.

Featuring bold and flavourful dishes, some of the more memorable ones at Si Chuan Dou Hua include the shredded chicken in spicy sesame sauce, stir-fired beef with garlic and Szechuan sauce and the classic Mapo Tofu with minced beef.

The hookup between the fragrant sesame and fiery peppercorn gives this dish a boost in the right direction while garlic and chilli combo is always a lethal combination, evident in the stir-fried beef with garlic and Szechuan sauce. As for the Mapo Tofu with minced beef, I am simply ecstatic that I can finally tuck in since the key ingredient is usually pork. Perfect food for the wintry season, they had me clamouring for more. The silky smooth dou hua, served appropriately at the close of the meal, is the perfect remedy to douse out those burning flames in my mouth.

With the fiery Szechuan peppercorns' numbling sensation, a trip to Si Chuan Dou Hua is enough to put me on a tingling high!
